ABOUT ABOUT

The “Annual Yale Bouchet Conference on Diversity and Graduate Education” finds its origins in our treasured collaboration with Howard University. It has become a dynamic and increasingly recognized academic conference, drawing New Haven community residents, scholars, administrators, and graduate and undergraduate students from across the nation.

Yale, the first institution in the country to award graduate degrees, is Dr. Edward A. Bouchet’s alma mater. in 1876 Dr. Bouchet became the first self-identified Black American to earn a Ph.D. from an American university and the 6th person ever, to earn a Ph.D. in physics in the western hemisphere.

We invite you to participate in vigorous discussions on diversity in graduate education and ongoing research across disciplines in universities located in all parts of the Nation.
