The “Annual Yale Bouchet Conference on Diversity and Graduate Education” has become a dynamic and increasingly recognized academic conference, drawing New Haven community residents, scholars, administrators, and graduate and undergraduate students from across the nation.
Yale, the first institution in the country to award graduate degrees, is Dr. Edward A. Bouchet’s alma mater. Dr. Bouchet is the first self-identified African American ever to receive the Ph.D. in any discipline and the sixth person in the western hemisphere to be awarded the Ph.D. in physics.
